As part of the quantified self / smart home movement, there are countless devices and services that enable users to learn about their energy consumption. But whether it concerns Smart Thermostats, intelligent lightbulbs and switches or shower timers; most consumer products zoom in on a single energy source, or a single aspect of energy management, rather than offering a helicopter perspective.
Real estate agencies are equally interested in the energy consumption of a building, but often don’t have access to detailed information about a building and in particular, the behavior of its inhabitants.
DPA Cauberg Huygen is a leading engineering agency with a specialization in energy management for the built environment, and deep knowledge of the impact of structural parameters on energy consumption of buildings. Their clients are mostly organizations that build or manage real estate, for renters and home owners. They asked us to build an application that can provide households with a precise estimate of their own energy consumption, but also with the power to create an aggregate view for real estate businesses. The latter is needed since there is a strong desire to get more insight on the actual usage of energy by inhabitants of a residential block, or an office environment.
Ezie was commissioned by DPA/ Cauberg Huygen to build a tool usable for both the individual and an organization, to quickly build a profile of their residential/office situation, based on a comprehensive set of a parameters, deeply founded on Cauberg’s knowledge of structural engineering. Ezie is be able to make an estimate of energy consumption that makes budgeting a breeze.
